Learn Korean: Verb + 기만 하다
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern Verb + 기만 하다. We use this to express that all we do is this or that, nothing else. If I and my girlfriend always argue, I would tell my friend All we do is fight. The main verb is 싸우다 (to fight). We take the verb stem and attach 기만 하다. The actual sentence is (우리) 싸우기만 해. If a guy asked me out on a date and all we did was eat, I would tell my friend All we did was eat. The main verb is is 먹다 (to eat). This time, 하다 is conjugated into past tense. The actual sentence is (우리) 먹기만 했어. If I am sleeping over at my friend’s house and my mom asks what we are going to do, I would say We will just watch a movie (that's all, nothing else special). The main verb is 영화를 보다 (to watch a movie). This time, 하다 is conjugated into future tense. The actual sentence is 영화 보기만 할 거예요.
