Learn Korean: 뭐라고 + Verb
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence
pattern 뭐라고 + Verb. Everybody knows the expression 뭐라고 했어. We use it to ask what someone just said or what somebody
else has said. If you just called me stupid, I would aggressively say 뭐라고 했어 though I actually heard what you said. If I am curious
about what Person B has said, I would ask Person A the same question. In
present tense (뭐라고 해), we are asking someone what
something is called as in 이거 뭐라고 해? (How do you call this
one?) Aside from 하다, we can use other verbs like 부르다 (to call) and 쓰다 (to write). If I am
not sure how to call someone, I would say 뭐라고 불러야 돼요? (How
should I call him?) If I want to know what someone wrote on a post online, I
would say 뭐라고 썼어?
