Learn Korean: Noun + 라도

Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern Noun + 라도. We hear this often when someone makes a command or asks a favor and has the nuance this thing at least. For example, if my brother doesn’t help in household chores, I would call his attention and say Throw the garbage at least. Compared to doing the dishes or laundry, the garbage is much an easier job and that’s the least thing he can do. The main verb is 쓰레기 버리다 (to throw the garbage). 라도 is attached to the noun (쓰레기). If it ends in a consonant, use 이라도. The actual sentence is 쓰레기라도 버려줘.

이유라도 말해줘야지.

Tell me the reason at least (why you are leaving).

물이라도 마셔.

Drink water at least (if you don’t want to eat). (someone is starving himself)

택시비라도 줘.

Pay for the taxi at least. (if you want me to pay for everything else)
