Learn Korean: 뭘 + Verb
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern 뭘 + Verb. 뭐 is the simplified form of 무엇 which is the question word what. When combined with an object particle, it becomes 뭐를 or 뭘. We use this to ask the object of the sentence. These are the what-do-(you) questions in English as in What did you eat?, What do you like?, What will you buy? The answer to these questions is the object. The main verbs are 먹다 (to eat), 좋아하다 (to like), and 사다 (to buy) respectively. 뭘 comes before them. It is essential that we know how to conjugate verbs in different tenses. The actual sentences are 뭘 먹었어요?, 뭘 좋아해요?, and 뭘 살 거예요? It is not uncommon to hear people say 뭐, dropping the particle completely.
