Learn Korean: Noun + 대로

Although the pattern involves nouns, it is not available for all nouns. There are some expressions that need to be familiarized with and as to what it means, it boils down to manners- or as someone or something does.

마음대로 해.

Do as you wish (or as what your heart says).

인생은 항상 뜻대로 되지 않아.

Life isn’t always what one desires.

오빠 말대로 하자.

Let’s do it as (oppa) says.

약속대로 내가 돌아왔어.

I came back as I promised.

그냥 계획대로 제주로 가자.

Let’s just go to Jeju as planned.

책대로 실험을 했어.

I did the experiment as shown in the book.

예상대로 우리를 배신했어.

He betrayed us just as expected.

엄마 명령대로 문을 열지마.

As mom instructed, do not open the door.

일정대로 이 시간에 박물관 가야 돼.

According the itinerary, we have to go to the museum this time.

법대로 아이를 때리면 안 돼.

You can’t beat a child as the law says.
