Learn Korean: 밤새 + Verb
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern 밤새 + Verb. 밤 is a noun which means night and 밤새 is an adverb which means overnight or all night long. We use this to express that something is/was done all night long. Generally, we say 밤새우다 to say that we stay up all night. But if it is something specific, say studying or crying, we use the actual verbs for them. We say I studied all night long or I cried all night long. The main verbs are 공부하다 (to study) and 울다 (to cry) respectively. Their past tense forms are 공부했다 and 울었다. 밤새 comes before them. The actual sentences are 밤새 공부했어(요) and 밤새 울었어(요). Statements like that will explain why we look sleepy and tired at the moment.
