Learn Korean: Verb + 어때?
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern Verb + 어때(?). 어때(요) comes from the verb 어떻다 which means to be how. We use it to ask someone what they think of someone or something. When combined with a verb in its 는 것 form, we are suggesting someone what to do; a form of advice or recommendation. For example, it’s summer time again and it’s a tradition of me and my friends to spend one weekend under the sun. Everyone seems indecisive, but I have an idea. I said What about going to Haeundae? It’s a popular beach in Busan. The main verb is 해운대 가다 (to go to Haeundae). We take the verb stem and attach 는 것. 것 is simplified into 거. Then, we add 어떻다. The actual sentence is 이번엔 해운대 가는 거 어때?
